There are places that exist on maps, and there are places that survive only in memory.
Bagh is a surreal re-imagination of the human stories of Punjab and the North-West Frontier — of landscapes once inhabited, homes left behind, journeys undertaken, and loves and losses carried quietly across them.
Rooted in the cultural memory of undivided Punjab, the collection looks beyond history and imagines the people within it. Old archival textiles become fragments of memory; traditional garments become traces of lives once lived. From these fragments emerges not simply a visual language, but a sense of being — an attempt to evoke the presence of a world that history can describe, but never fully return to us. The great love stories of the region — Heer and Ranjha, Sohni and Mahiwal — linger through the collection as echoes of separation, devotion and impossible longing.
Lungis, anarkalis, shararas, lehengas and sherwanis unfold in earthy fawns, beiges, mustard, taupe, ivory, midnight, black and deep maroon, with glimmers of gold, bronze and copper. Archival references are reimagined through gota, zardozi embroidery and layers of couture craftsmanship.
Yet Bagh is not an attempt to reconstruct a Punjab that once was.
It is a dream of a Punjab remembered — and perhaps, imagined. A place where histories overlap, identities meet, borders disappear, and stories belong to everyone. At its heart, Bagh is secular. Its only religion is that of the soul — love, longing and the eternal yearning for home.
A collection about what remains after we leave: a fragment of cloth, a remembered face, a half-forgotten song, a story carried from one generation to another — and perhaps, the strange ache of longing for a place we have never known, but somehow remember.
