Designing, for us, is incarnated from our travelogues, from rare experiences evoking new emotions, from narratives of vintage textiles and from reminisces held by flea market souvenirs. Every province and every period has unique mixes that inspire us.
Our ideas amalgamated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision shaped the very essence of the characters’ costumes. Given that we are dealing with 13th century royals from four distinct provinces and not much is actually documented of that era, we had to shift and isolate key elements that might have been prevalent then and eliminate all modern/ Mughal/ European influences from the garments and enter a “pure-zone” that Mr Bhansali envisioned for the characters.
